Mary Akinyl is 36 years old and she learned about Project Tres in 2018 when her daughter was studying at Hai Africa, an NGO in Kenya that has been collaborating with Project Tres for a long time.
At the time, Carla, our founder, was in Kenya and met Mary for an interview. This meeting became the opportunity that enabled Mary to support and be supported by the project today.
Mary grew up in a struggling family in Siya County, a village in the Nyanza region of Kenya. Her mother was the family's breadwinner, providing for her and her three siblings. A big fan of football and athletics, Mary couldn't pursue her dreams due to her family's hardships. She left school and stayed with her parents until she married at 16 and had her first child.
Unfortunately, her marriage turned out to be an abusive one, as her husband struggled with alcohol. Despite this, Mary had four more children and aimed for a better life through her small vegetable business, but this was more about survival than entrepreneurial success, as the income wasn't enough to cover all their expenses.
That’s when Project Tres brought a ray of hope into her life, providing her with a regular income that eased her struggles and ensured her family had a roof over their heads month after month.
Mary is grateful to God, to Carla, and to everyone who works and supports the project, for the stability she finally has, enhancing the importance of every purchase and donation Project Tres gets from their supporters.
